Home / What Is the GMGN Tip? Updated
Not a gratuity. Not a GMGN charge.
The GMGN Tip Is a Priority Fee
It buys queue position from validators. GMGN never sees it. Here's what it costs, what to set, and how it differs from the 1% fee.
Cashback applies to GMGN's 1% platform fee โ the part GMGN actually charges.
What Is the Tip on GMGN?
The tip is the priority fee attached to your transaction. On Solana it goes to validators and block builders who decide which transactions land first โ not to GMGN. It sits alongside two other costs: GMGN's flat 1% platform fee and ordinary network gas. GMGN accepts a minimum tip of 0.0001 SOL, caps the combined on-chain fee at 2 SOL, and a total on-chain cost of roughly 0.002โ0.006 SOL covers normal trades. Raise it only when you're competing for a block.
Three Costs, Three Different Recipients
Most confusion about the "GMGN tip" is really confusion about who gets paid.
| Cost | Who receives it | How big | Can you change it? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Platform fee | GMGN | 1% of trade value, flat, every chain | Not the rate โ but 80% of it can come back to you |
| Network gas | The blockchain | Small and roughly fixed per transaction | No โ it's the cost of using the chain |
| Tip / priority fee | Validators & block builders | You choose ยท min 0.0001 SOL ยท 2 SOL cap combined | Yes โ entirely your setting |

What the Tip Actually Buys
Solana blocks are ordered auctions. When two traders want the same fill, the one paying more for priority usually lands first. The tip is your bid in that auction โ it buys queue position, nothing else.
That has three practical consequences:
- On a quiet market it's near-wasted money. If nobody is competing for your fill, a large tip changes nothing except your cost. Defaults are fine.
- On a contested launch it's the whole game. During a hyped migration, hundreds of bots are bidding. Underpay and you simply don't get in.
- It never guarantees a fill. A tip doesn't protect you from slippage, vanishing liquidity or someone bidding higher. Failed transactions still cost gas.
Rough tiers traders use on Solana
| Situation | Typical total on-chain fee | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary buy or sell, liquid token | 0.002โ0.006 SOL | Defaults. No competition to outbid. |
| Busy market, moderate urgency | 0.006โ0.01 SOL | Some congestion; a small premium avoids retries. |
| Contested snipe / migration | 0.01โ0.03 SOL | Active auction. Budget it as part of position cost. |
| Hot launch, heavy bot competition | 0.03 SOL+ | Pay up or miss. Only worth it if the position size justifies it. |
Scale the tip to the competition, not to impatience. Slippage, anti-MEV and TP/SL settings โ
The size rule nobody tells beginners
The tip is roughly fixed per transaction, while GMGN's fee is proportional. A 0.01 SOL tip on a $20 trade is a punishing share of the position; on a $2,000 trade it's a rounding error. If your trades are small, an aggressive tip is the fastest way to bleed out โ see the arithmetic on practising cheaply.
Other Things Called "GMGN Tips"
The word is overloaded, which is why search results for it are a mess.
- The priority-fee tip โ this page. A setting in the trade panel and in the Telegram bots.
- GMGN "Safety Tips" โ the official docs article about phishing and wallet security. Different meaning entirely. Our version: official links and known fakes โ
- Product tips โ GMGN's own posts about small features, like custom alert sounds for notifications.
- Trading tips โ generic advice content. If a page promises "GMGN tips" and delivers a listicle, that's this one.
The One Cost You Can Actually Cut
You cannot negotiate gas. You cannot negotiate the validator auction. You can change what happens to GMGN's 1%.
Starting your account through a cashback link binds the deal permanently: GMGN still charges 1%, and 80% of it comes back โ an effective platform cost of about 0.2%. On a trader doing $50,000 a month in volume, that's the difference between $500 and $100 in platform fees. The tip stays whatever you set it to.
Tip & Priority Fee Questions
What is the tip on GMGN?
The tip is the priority fee attached to your transaction. It is paid to Solana validators or block builders to get your trade included sooner, and GMGN does not receive it. It is separate from GMGN's flat 1% platform fee and from ordinary network gas.
How much should the GMGN tip be?
For ordinary trades a total on-chain cost of roughly 0.002 to 0.006 SOL is typical and enough. For contested snipes traders raise it to 0.01 to 0.03 SOL, and higher on a hot launch. On Solana the minimum tip GMGN accepts is 0.0001 SOL and the combined on-chain fee is capped at 2 SOL.
Does GMGN keep the tip?
No. The tip goes to validators and block builders who order transactions, not to GMGN. GMGN's own revenue is the flat 1% handling fee per trade. Raising your tip therefore never increases what GMGN earns from you, and never reduces it either.
Why did my GMGN trade fail even with a tip?
A tip buys queue position, not certainty. Trades still fail when slippage tolerance is too tight for the price move, when liquidity disappears mid-block, or when a launch is so contested that other traders bid higher. Raise slippage and tip together for contested entries, and treat both as costs of the position.
